Weaner rings aren't a guarantee....

We've had, let's see.... 4 calves here on our farm. And so far 50% of those have figured out a way around their weaner rings. Smart cows! So if anyone tells you that a weaner ring is a guarantee - don't believe them!

So we have had to build a cow shed and fence off a part of our barn yard so "little" Stewy doesn't get Mable's milk - and we DO!!

We are very thankful for adult sons that are willing to come help when needed too! Thanks Bud & Drewski! The guys actually built this AND went and got a large load of firewood ALL in one day! Oh, to be young again with that much energy LOL

Not much fun in the cold and wind to be building but at least we didn't have any snow to hinder the building. Hard to believe that it's almost the new year and we've got no snow on the ground. I'm willing to forgo winter this year. Let's just get right on with spring! Anyone with me??
4 square walls all neat and tidy!
All is well once again - we're back up to 2.5 gallons per day. And Stew is back on his hay like he should be. Ha! Guess we fixed that little snitch didn't we!! Gotta be smarter than the cows! LOL

  1. Never even heard of a weaner ring! We have always just suffered through the bawling calves and cows during a seperation period. I'm with you, let's just forget this winter thing. We haven't had but a dusting of snow all year. NOrmally our kids are out of school due to snow already. The guys got a lot done in one day! Looks great! Happy New Year to you and your family!

  3. Nice shed! We're going to have to figure out what to do soon...2 cows pregnant, one with horns who likes to be the center of attention, the other is our very docile Jersey. Could be interesting...:)

    Love the name Stewy!

  4. Lucky you for the two able-bodied sons and no snow on the ground for this project! Looks like a nice, new comfy shelter that will do the trick.
